HELLO, I'm Alissa.

Did you know that each year the UK generates about 30 million tonnes of waste from households, most of which ends up in landfill?

Britain dumps more household waste into landfill than nearly all other countries in the European Union. Waste sent to landfill produces methane, a powerful greenhouse gas, contributing to climate change.

Despite Milton Keynes having kerbside recycling, over 90% of the plastic we buy still ends up in landfill. This is largely because many plastics currently in use are not recyclable. Milton Keynes Council has a Zero Waste strategy and aims to reduce landfill waste to 5% by 2024.

Very little of our plastic food packaging is currently recyclable and therefore ends up being sent to landfill. After collecting my non-recyclable waste for just one week I realised that food was the main culprit and it was the plastic packaging from dry goods, such as pasta and rice that I could not avoid. So I decided to create Forest and Folk, MK's first zero waste shop to try and address this problem.
